Waiheʻe Ridge Trail

HikesMauiChecked Oct. 29, 2026

A steady ridge climb in the West Maui Mountains above Waiheʻe, about 5 miles round trip with roughly 1,500 feet of gain to a 2,563-foot viewpoint (Lanilili). Clear mornings give waterfall and valley views; afternoons often cloud in, and the trail gets muddy after rain.

  • Length: about 5 miles round trip, about 1,500 feet of gain; allow 3 to 4 hours. Rated moderate.
  • It starts with a steep paved section, then becomes a dirt ridge trail with stairs and mud. Wear shoes with grip.
  • Getting there: from Kahului, take Highway 340 (Kahekili Highway) north past Waiheʻe, then turn up the road at Maluhia Boy Scout Camp to the small trailhead lot.
  • The gate has set hours; don't start before it opens or park outside it. The lot is small, so go early, which also gives you the best chance of clear views.
  • Pass through the cattle gate and close it behind you. There's a picnic table at the top, but no restrooms or water.
