Kapalua Coastal Trail

HikesMauiChecked Oct. 29, 2026

An easy West Maui shoreline walk between Kapalua Bay and D.T. Fleming Beach, 1.76 miles one way (about 3.5 miles out and back), partly paved and partly dirt and boardwalk. In winter you can often see whales, with Molokaʻi across the channel.

  • Length: 1.76 miles one way; about 1 to 1.5 hours round trip without stops.
  • Ends: Kapalua Bay Beach (south) and D.T. Fleming Beach Park (north). Hawea Point makes a good turnaround for a shorter walk.
  • Parking: D.T. Fleming Beach Park has the largest lot. The small lots at Kapalua Bay and the Dragon's Teeth trailhead fill early.
  • Side trip: Makāluapuna Point and the 'Dragon's Teeth' lava formations. The area holds a Hawaiian burial site, so stay on the path and off the marked areas.
  • Good for families and sunrise or sunset. Bring water and sun protection; the rocky points are exposed.
