HikesOʻahuChecked Oct. 30, 2026

A short but steep 1-mile round-trip ridge hike in Kailua to old military pillboxes with famous views over Lanikai and the Mokulua islands. Free, no shade, and parking in Lanikai is very limited, so park at Kailua Beach Park and walk.

  • Difficulty: moderate. Length: about 1 mile round trip.
  • Trailhead: Kaelepulu Drive in Lanikai, across from Mid-Pacific Country Club; a narrow signed path between two fences.
  • Parking: very limited in the neighborhood and cars get towed; park at Kailua Beach Park and walk.
  • No shade; go early. Gravel sections are slippery, especially going down and after rain.
  • Free.
