Military lodging & campgroundsStatewideChecked Oct. 31, 2026

Yes. Hawaiʻi has several military (MWR) getaways for eligible military families and some veterans. On Oʻahu: the Hale Koa Hotel in Waikīkī, Bellows beach cabins and campsites in Waimānalo, Pililāʻau cabins in Waiʻanae, Barbers Point beach cottages at White Plains and Nimitz beaches, and Kāneʻohe Bay cottages and cabanas. Kauaʻi has Barking Sands cottages at PMRF, and the Big Island has Kīlauea Military Camp. There's none on Maui, Molokaʻi or Lānaʻi.

  • Who can stay: active duty, Guard and Reserve, military retirees, DoD civilians, and their families. Veterans with a service-connected disability rating (VA Health ID card), Purple Heart recipients, former POWs and VA caregivers also qualify under the 2018 Purple Heart and Disabled Veterans Equal Access Act, in effect since 2020. Most other veterans don't qualify unless sponsored by an eligible ID holder.
  • Oʻahu: Hale Koa Hotel (Waikīkī); Bellows Air Force Station (Waimānalo) with beach cabins, condos, camper cabins and tent campsites; Pililāʻau Army Recreation Center (Waiʻanae); Barbers Point Beach Cottages (Kalaeloa); Marine Corps Base Hawaiʻi Kāneʻohe Bay cottages, Cabanas and Klipper Villas.
  • Kauaʻi: Barking Sands Beach Cottages at the Pacific Missile Range Facility (west side).
  • Hawaiʻi Island: Kīlauea Military Camp inside Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park.
  • Maui, Molokaʻi and Lānaʻi: no military lodging.
  • Camping: Bellows is the main military campground, with family and group tent sites and rustic camper cabins. Kāneʻohe Bay's Cabanas are 'upscale camping' rooms with shared bathhouses.
  • On-base hotels (official travel first, leisure stays space-available): Navy Gateway Inns & Suites and Navy Lodge at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, the Inn at Schofield Barracks, and Inns of the Corps at Kāneʻohe Bay.
  • Book early: the beach cottages and cabins often fill months ahead, especially summer and holidays. Each sponsor can usually book one cabin at a time.
