Kīlauea Military Camp is a joint-services resort inside Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park at about 4,000 feet, with 90 cabins and apartments (1 to 3 bedrooms), a café, bowling, a general store and a fitness center. It's the only military lodging on the Big Island.

  • Lodging: 90 cabins and apartments with 1 to 3 bedrooms, plus larger houses and group dorms.
  • Who can stay: active duty and retired military, Guard, Reserve, DoD civilians and their families; eligible disabled veterans may also qualify. Check eligibility when booking.
  • Book: kilaueamilitarycamp.com or call 808-208-9110 or 808-208-5630 (7 a.m. to 10 p.m.). Popular cabins sell out, so book early.
  • Location: 99-252 Crater Rim Drive, Volcano, about 45 minutes from the Hilo airport. The park entrance fee applies. It's cool and damp at this elevation, so bring a jacket.
  • Note: the park's temporary welcome center is at KMC while the Kīlauea Visitor Center is renovated.
