Barking Sands Beach Cottages (PMRF, Kauaʻi)

The Pacific Missile Range Facility at Barking Sands on Kauaʻi's west side has beachfront cottages with full kitchens, many renovated or built in 2024 and 2025. A 2-bedroom beachfront cottage was about $250 a night in 2025. It's the only military lodging on Kauaʻi.

• Cottages: mostly 2-bedroom, 1-bath with full kitchen, outdoor shower and ocean-facing lānai (up to 6 guests); a VIP cottage sleeps 8. Some sit across the road from the beach.
• Rate example: about $250 a night for a 2-bedroom beachfront cottage (2025 stay).
• Who can stay: eligible military, retirees, dependents and authorized veterans. Book online through Navy Getaways (dodlodging.net); 14-day cancellation policy.
• Location: PMRF, west Kauaʻi, about 50 minutes from the Līhuʻe airport. The base has one restaurant, a small shoppette and a gas pump, so stock up on groceries in Līhuʻe or Waimea.
• Next to Polihale and the Nāpali Coast's south end; Kōkeʻe State Park is still closed after Hurricane Lowell.
