Electricity is Hawaiʻi's biggest surprise for newcomers: about 40 cents per kWh on Kauaʻi, 42 on Oʻahu, 46 on Hawaiʻi Island and 47 on Maui, and higher on Molokaʻi and Lānaʻi. A 3-bedroom house with air conditioning can run $400 to $580 a month for power alone.

  • Electric rates (late 2026, all-in averages): Kauaʻi about 40¢/kWh, Oʻahu about 42¢, Hawaiʻi Island about 46¢, Maui about 47¢, Molokaʻi about 56¢, Lānaʻi about 58¢. They change monthly with fuel costs.
  • Typical electric bills: a 1-bedroom condo without AC about $110 to $160; a 3-bedroom house with AC about $400 to $580.
  • Water and sewer for a house: Honolulu about $165 to $220 a month (sewer is often the bigger part); other counties lower. Condos usually include these in association fees.
  • Internet: Spectrum about $50 to $90, Hawaiian Telcom fiber about $55 to $90 where available, 5G home internet about $50 to $70, Starlink about $80 to $120 plus equipment.
  • Propane runs about $5.50 to $7.50 a gallon. Solar panels and fans cut bills sharply.
