Kuilau Ridge Trail (Keāhua Arboretum)

HikesKauaʻiChecked Oct. 29, 2026

A gentle ridge walk through the Līhuʻe-Kōloa Forest Reserve inland of Wailua, about 4 miles round trip with views of Mount Waiʻaleʻale. After Hurricane Lowell, access only goes as far as the Keāhua Arboretum parking lot, so the trail itself isn't open yet.

  • Status (Oct. 29, 2026): Līhuʻe-Kōloa Forest Reserve access is limited to the Keāhua Arboretum parking lot; Kuilau Ridge hasn't reopened.
  • When open: about 2 miles each way to a picnic shelter. It connects to the Moalepe Trail.
  • Getting there: Kuamoʻo Road (Route 580) from Wailua, past ʻŌpaekaʻa Falls, to the end at Keāhua Arboretum. You may have to ford a stream on the road, so don't drive in if it's running high.
  • The trail is red mud after rain; wear shoes you don't mind ruining.
