Routes & drivingOʻahuChecked Oct. 29, 2026

Take H-1 West to H-2 North (exit 8B). H-2 ends at Wahiawā and becomes Kamehameha Highway (Route 99, then Route 83) down to Haleʻiwa. Stay on Route 83 past Haleʻiwa for Waimea Bay, Pipeline and Sunset Beach. About 32 miles.

  • H-1 West, then exit 8B for H-2 North toward Mililani and Wahiawā.
  • H-2 ends and becomes Kamehameha Highway (Route 99) through Wahiawā and the central plateau, down to Haleʻiwa.
  • For Waimea Bay, Pipeline and Sunset Beach, continue on Kamehameha Highway (Route 83) past Haleʻiwa.
  • About 32 miles. Roughly 45 minutes with no traffic, about 70 minutes typical, up to 90 minutes at rush hour or on big-surf days.
  • The two-lane road along the North Shore slows badly on big-surf days and summer weekends.
  • Scenic option: go around the east and windward side on Route 72 and Route 83. Much longer, but a beautiful drive.
