Hulopoʻe Bay and Puʻu Pehe (Sweetheart Rock), Lānaʻi

Places & parksLānaʻiChecked Oct. 29, 2026

Lānaʻi's best beach, Hulopoʻe Bay, is a protected marine area with clear water and reef for snorkeling, right near the Mānele ferry dock. A short trail from the beach leads to the cliffs overlooking Puʻu Pehe, the sea stack called Sweetheart Rock. Spinner dolphins often visit the bay in the morning.

  • Hulopoʻe Beach Park: white sand, calm on most days, good snorkeling on the reef; restrooms and showers.
  • It's a protected marine area: don't take shells, rocks or marine life, and don't feed fish.
  • Puʻu Pehe (Sweetheart Rock): a short, rocky trail from the left end of Hulopoʻe to the cliff overlook. Stay back from the edge.
  • Spinner dolphins may come in to rest; federal rules say stay at least 50 yards away and don't swim with them.
  • Walkable from the Mānele ferry harbor, so it works on a ferry day trip.
