Sandy Beach Park
Southeast Oʻahu beach known for a powerful shorebreak, nicknamed "Broke Neck Beach" because waves breaking in shallow water cause serious neck and spinal injuries. Not recommended for children or inexperienced swimmers.
- Waves break close to shore and can slam people into the sand, even when the surf looks small.
- Lifeguards reportedly rescue an average of 2 to 3 swimmers per day.
- Lifeguards urge parents with children to choose a different beach.
- If you go in at all, talk to the lifeguards about conditions first, and never turn your back on the ocean, even on the sand.
