Getting to and around Molokaʻi

Planning guidesMolokaʻiChecked Oct. 29, 2026

You can only fly to Molokaʻi: the passenger ferry from Lāhainā stopped in 2016 (Maui County plans a new one around 2029). Mokulele Airlines flies small planes from Honolulu and Kahului to Hoʻolehua Airport (MKK), and Lānaʻi Air flies from Honolulu. Alamo is the only rental car company and there's no rideshare, so book a car with your flight.

  • Flights: Mokulele Airlines (Honolulu and Kahului to MKK); Lānaʻi Air from Honolulu (uses a hangar on Kaulele Place; courtesy shuttle needs 48 hours' notice).
  • No ferry since October 2016. Maui County plans to build boats from 2027 and start Molokaʻi service in 2029.
  • Rental cars: Alamo only at the airport, with a small fleet. Book early. No Uber or Lyft.
  • A free Maui Economic Opportunity bus runs weekdays with limited Saturday service; call 808-553-3218 to confirm times.
  • Gas is pricier and there are only a couple of stations; fill up in Kaunakakai.
  • Kaunakakai is the only town: groceries, bank, post office, restaurants. Stores close early and Sundays are quiet.
