Getting to and around Lānaʻi

Planning guidesLānaʻiChecked Oct. 29, 2026

Most visitors arrive on the Expeditions ferry from Māʻalaea Harbor on Maui: three round trips a day, about 1 hour 10 minutes each way (Māʻalaea departs 6:30 a.m., 11 a.m., 3:30 p.m.; Mānele departs 8:30 a.m., 1 p.m., 5:30 p.m.). You can also fly into Lānaʻi Airport. Most of the island's roads are dirt, so a 4WD Jeep is needed beyond Lānaʻi City.

  • Ferry: Expeditions, Māʻalaea Harbor (Maui) to Mānele Harbor (Lānaʻi). Reservations 800-695-2624. Times can change; check the booking calendar.
  • Maui County plans to take over the route with a contracted operator around mid-2027.
  • Fly: small-plane service into Lānaʻi Airport (LNY).
  • Getting around: Lānaʻi City has one main paved road network; beyond it, roads are dirt and cinder. Dollar Rent A Car Lānaʻi rents Jeep Wranglers for off-road routes; Four Seasons guests can rent Jeeps.
  • Rental contracts often exclude damage on unpaved roads; read yours.
  • Hulopoʻe Beach is a short walk or ride from the ferry dock, so a day trip without a car is possible.
