Camping & permitsMolokaʻi, LānaʻiChecked Oct. 31, 2026

On Molokaʻi you can camp at Pālāʻau State Park, in the cool forest above the Kalaupapa Lookout ($20 a night per site for residents, $30 for visitors, booked online up to 90 days ahead), or at Maui County's Pāpōhaku Beach Park on the west end with a county permit. On Lānaʻi, camping at Hulopoʻe Beach is arranged through the island's landowner.

  • Pālāʻau State Park: book on the state's online system (explore.ehawaii.gov); up to 10 people per site; max 5 nights in a row, then 30 days before returning.
  • Pāpōhaku Beach Park (west Molokaʻi): Maui County permit from the county parks department; it's remote, so bring all supplies.
  • Lānaʻi: Hulopoʻe Beach Park camping is managed by Pūlama Lānaʻi; contact them for permits and availability.
  • There's no public camping on Kalaupapa (tours are paused).
